The starting point of this short hike to the “Schaferkreuz” is the Acherkogelbahn mountain station. From here you walk straight ahead until you reach a narrow path which leads slightly right and uphill. After approximately 250m you come to a wide forest path, which you leave after 60 meters and meander up the next narrow path. After approximately 300 m you will reach a junction. Here you follow the path to your left. This path traverses comfortably upwards and opens a fantastic view over the Ötztal Alps and the Mieminger mountain chain. After around 400 carefree meters you reach the Schaferkreuz, where you, once again, can enjoy the stunning panorama to the fullest. If you lucky you can experience a spectacular sky at dusk. Definitely worth having a go.
The descent follows the same route back downwards.
