Old summit cross of Wildspitze
North Tirol’s highest mountain within easy reach
A nice concession for all those who can no longer climb North Tirol's highest mountain themselves: the legendary, old summit cross of Wildspitze has found a new home on the way from Vent to the Rofenhöfe Farms.
With eye contact to the original location, it now makes the magic of a summit victory easily accessible for hikers of all generations “down here”. Erected in 1933 using pure muscle power of Ötztal mountain guides and innkeepers, it towered on the summit until it was replaced in August 2010.
Even today it stands in an important place: before the actual first ascent of Wildspitze by Leander Klotz and his companions from Rofen, Schlaginweit's attempted ascent was made from here in 1847. Special tip: the summit cross is located right on Bartebne Art Trail!
