Description
St. Vitus`Parish Church - Umhausen - Oldest church in the Ötztal Valley The parish church of Umhausen was built in 1220. Mainly Gothic building, renewed in 1682 by adding a northern steeple and a three-sided choir stall. High-quality interior, splendid fresco paintings in Gothic style (1st half of the 14th century), filigree high altar with neo-Gothic elements, countless Baroque figures. Splendid Gothic Pietà dating back to 1360. The adjacent Nepomuk Chapel was added in 1771, featuring fresco paintings by Josef Keil. Funerary chapel with arched entrance area. Small recesses in the graveyard walls, decorated with Rococo statue of Saint Vitus (dating back to 1770). Picturesque graveyard with beautiful crosses designed by the local artist blacksmiths. Precious Stations of the Cross and wayside shrines.
