High alpine & glacier road
Kühtai High Alpine Road: The toll-free High Alpine Road winds its way over 18 km from Oetz up to the Kühtaisattel. In the Ötztal Cycle Marathon, the ascent to Kühtai at 2,020 m is the first challenge for participants, as a maximum gradient of 16% has to be mastered. Of course, you can do the same as the “dreamers” or take the car and enjoy the ascent through the Nedertal valley.
Ötztal Glacier Road: 13 km from Sölden on the highest road in the Eastern Alps before you reach the Rettenbach Glacier at 2,830 m above sea level. Via the highest road tunnel in Europe (the Rosi-Mittermaier-Tunnel) you continue to the Tiefenbach Glacier. The toll glacier road is a legendary route in many respects - you can find out all about it HERE.
Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road: In the rear Ötztal valley, the Alps have a “secret gap” - the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road. The road crossing at 2,474 m has probably been an important connecting axis between north and south since the Stone Age. Nowadays, you no longer have to scramble over the pass, but can take the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road from Obergurgl to the Passeiertal Valley in South Tyrol by car or motorcycle - HERE you can find out all about it.
