Vent Mountaineers’ Chapel
The art of the mountains
Before or after a scenic mountain tour in Vent, all paths lead to the Mountaineers' Chapel. The former funeral chapel for mountaineers killed on their tour now serves as a place of strength where you can pause and wind down, while it also inspires visitors with an eventful history. Photo exhibitions of the Ötztal Nature Park as well as themed exhibitions find a memorable place in the stone walls.
A place of strength deeply rooted in history
The mountaineers' chapel nestles on a small, green hill in Vent. Sun-kissed benches in front of the door invite you to pause and enjoy the panoramic view. The interior is inspiring as well. Built in the late 1930s, the chapel served as a fire station but was destroyed by an avalanche in 1951. In the same year, Vent’s locals built a new fire station, which from then on served as an equipment room and a “funeral chapel” for mountaineers died in alpine accidents. After the chapel fell into disrepair, the building was finally renovated in 2012. Since then, the new “Mountaineers’ Chapel” has been a popular exhibition site and place of strength.
